The first edition of this work, a scarce volume. Although Norma Douglas was best known for his novel South WInd, it can be argued that some of his best works were his travel book, which not only documented new experiences with insight and humour, but also were written in a very charming prose. Alone is one of those books, recollecting travels through Italy.  In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelfwear and slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The cloth to the spine has slightly faded. Internally, firmly bound.
