They were inspired by the death of his brother, who was lost at sea towards the end of the Second World War, and they imagine the price that the survivors must pay, the price of war and all of its repercussions. In the publisher's original full cloth binding, with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally very smart, a small mark to the front board. Dust wrapper has a small tear to the head and tail of the rear cover, and is a little bumped to the spine edges.
