An important poem, here with several other works by Drayton. This work is the only contemporary reference to Shakespeare aside from Jonson's references. An important collection of Elizabethan poetry, which contains the only contemporary reference to Shakespeare as a poet aside from Ben Jonson's references. Drayton and Shakespeare were known to be friends, although in this work he refers to Shakespeare as such to page 206 'Shakespeare thous hadst as smooth a Comicke vaine,/Fitting the socke, and in thy naturall braine,/As strong conception, and as Cleere a rage,/As any one that trafiqu'd with stage&apos. This work also contains one of the first examples of fairy literature, to 'Nimphidia&apos. Former owner's ink inscription to the dedication leaf, W Dalton Scoones. This copy has been cropped, with C2 folding to the foot of the leaf. Bound without endpapers, the final blank and engraved frontispiece. This work is typically without the engraved frontispiece. The preliminary leaves are misbound. With the collation: [1], a4, [1], b6, c-z4, 2A4-2D4, 2E3.ESTC reference no: S121619. A smartly bound copy of this very scarce work. In a contemporary calf binding. Repaired to the head and tail of spine, front board as well as to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Tidemark to A4-C2 not affecting readability. Further tidemarks to G1-G4, 2B3-end. A few small damp spots to the final few leaves. Inscription of former owner W Dalton Scoones to the dedication leaf twice. Professional repair to closed tears at margins on occasion, not affecting text. Small hole to the head of 2D2.
