It follows the protagonist Tom Brown's journey to the fictional St Ambrose's College Oxford. A vivid impression of university life during the mid nineteenth century. Thomas Hughes was an English lawyer, judge and author. His 'Tom Brown' books are semi-autobiographical, as the first novel 'Tom Brown's School Days' was set at Rugby, where the author attended.
