Pietro Giannone (1676-1748) was an Italian philosopher, remembered for opposing the Roman Catholic Church. In 1723, he published 'Storia Civile del Regno di Napoli' ('History of the Kingdom of Naples'), which supported the civil powers over the Church, leading to his excommunication from Naples. This work is a defence, published posthumously.Complete in two volumes.In a quarter calf binding with lovely patterned boards. In a quarter calf binding. Externally a trifle rubbed, bumped to the extremities , some loss to the leather on the spine, particularly the foot of volume I. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound, pages generally bright and clean, some age toning and the odd spot. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
