HisĀ  most acclaimed book was 'The Last of the Mohicans', which featured in his series of 'Leatherstocking Tales&apos. This novel focuses on sea smugglers in seventeenth century New York.This edition is the first English edition, published before the American version; it was written whilst Fenimore Cooper was on a tour of Europe and first published in Dresden.In a lovely half calf binding with marbled boards.This work has been printed anonymously, but it is known to be James Fenimore Cooper. In a half calf binding. Externally attractive with some rubbing and some bumping to the head and tails of the spine and extremities and shelf wear to the boards. Ownership bookplate to a John Ashton, Solicitor, Frodsham to the front pastedown of all volumes. Internally firmly bound, bar one loose gathering in vol II, pages bright and clean, minor spots heavier to the endpapers. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
