His books were all published by Routledge and Sons as yellowbacks, cheap novels produced in competition with the penny dreadful. This edition has been rebound from a yellowback copy, and comprises a tale of military life and romance.Undated ownership bookplate to the front pastedown to 'James Maclean, 33 Cowley Road, Oxford&apos. Most likely belonged to James Noël MacKenzie MacLean (1928-1978), a Scottish historian and author who studied at Lincoln University, Oxford.In a half calf binding with a gilt spine.Undated, dated from copies on Library Hub. Externally lovely, very minor shelfwear to edges. Undated ownership bookplate to the front pastedown to 'James Maclean, 33 Cowley Road, Oxford', and stamp of same name to front endpaper.
