This is a 'revised and collected' one volume edition. Henry Hallam was a noted English historian. This was his first major work, and was originally issued in two volumes in 1818. This work is a comprehensive history and view of Europe during the period dubbed the Middle Ages, which ran from the fifth to the fifteenth century. The period began with the fall of the Roman Empire, and began to end with the beginning of the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery. The author looks into detail into France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, and England. Hallam described the work as a series of historical dissertations, dealing with the feudal system, the ecclesiastical system, and the political systems that were in operation during this time. With a publisher's advert of 'English Reprints' to the rear.  Binder's stamp to the verso of front endpaper, 'Bain Binder&apos.Undated, dated using Copac.  In a full calf binding.
