Volume VII contains 'Poems for Young Ladies&apos.'The Vicar of Wakefield' is Goldsmith's best known work, and was one of the most popular and widely read novels of the Victorian era. The novel follows Charles Primrose, the vicar, as his family loses money, and sees him and his children through many trials and tribulations.Oliver Goldsmith was an Irish novelist who is best known for this novel, though also for his pastoral poem 'The Deserted Village', and the plays 'The Good-Natur'd Man' and 'She Stoops to Conquer&apos.Bookplates and ink inscriptions of Augustus Arthur Vansittart, gifted to him by his mother, Anna Maria Vanittart ne Copson. Vansittart was an English scholar, noted for his collation of the various readings of the New Testament. He also founded the Sedqwick Prize, the geology prize for Cambridge Fellows. Bookplates to the front pastedowns and verso to the front endpapers. Ink inscriptions to the verso to the front endpaper and to the recto to the front free endpapers.Subsidiary titlepages are present. In a full marbled calf binding. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. A little loss to the head and tail of the spines. A little rubbing and marks to the boards and spines. Light cracks to the joints of Volume I. Small crack to the head of the front joint of Volume II. Small cracks to the head of the joints of Volumes III, V, and VI. Small amount of loss to the tail of the rear joint of Volume IV. Hinges are starting a little but remain firm. Bookplate to the front pastedown and to the verso to the front endpaper of all volumes. Ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper of all volumes. Ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper of Volume I. Internally, firmly bound, though Volume V is generally firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and generally clean with just a few odd spots. Prior owner's ink inscription to page i of Volume III. Small closed tear to the title page of Volume VII. Very Good .
