This work was written as an attempt to counter the Whig party's push to dissolve the Tory party Parliament. He did this by defending Tory views and exposing Whig motives. It was published by Charles Davenant, an English economist and politician.  Davenant was a Tory MP for St Ives and Great Bedwyn. A very scarce work. ESTC reference number: T51915. Bookplate to the front pastedown for Oldham Public Free Libraries.  Their blind stamp to the first and last few pages and to the final leaf. Not affecting the readability of text. From the library of Allen and Beryl Freer. The Freers were avid art collectors, and acquired quite the selection over the twentieth century, of works mostly bought from the artists. Allen organised many exhibitions of artists he admired and published several works on art.  With Allen Freer's bookplate to the front pastedown. An important political treatise from the Tory perspective at the turn of the 18th century. In a contemporary calf binding. With gilt tooling to the front board and to the spine. Externally, generally smart. Rubbed to the joints and to the head and tail of spine.
