Author: Omar Khayyam; Edward Fitzgerald Title: Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam
Description: London, Macmillan and Co, 1890. First edition. Vellum. A finely bound, first separate printing of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. This is the first separate printing of Edward Fitzgerald's translation after the fifth printing of 1889. With a section on the variations between the second, third, and fourth editions. In addition to this there are comparative tables and notes by the editor. 'The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam' was the title that Edward Fitzgerald gave to his 1859 translation of the Persian quatrains attributed to Omar Khayyam. Fitzgerald's was the first English translation. However, Fitzgerald's translations are fairly loose, he referred to his work on them as 'transmogrification&apos. Some consider that his translation of 'Rubaiyat' could be considered as Fitzgerald's own original poetry that are simply loosely based on Khayyam's quatrains. In a full vellum binding. Externally, very smart. A few light spots to the boards. Ringmark to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright. Heavy spotting to the endpapers, and just the odd spot. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: None. Very Good Indeed .
