His first publication was 'The History of Modern Europe' and he also published two works on Rome 'History of the City of Rome' and 'History of the Kings of Rome&apos. The eighteen illustrations to this work are explained in great detail using information Dyer adapted from a work on Pompeii issued by the Society for the Diffusion of Entertaining Knowledge. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown, HMS Britannia Second Admiralty Prize for Latin awarded to Mr E E Lacy July 22nd 1880. A comprehensive history of the city of Pompeii, stimulated by the remains of the ancient city as seen through the eyes of the nineteenth century traveller. In a contemporary calf binding. Externally, generally smart with patches of rubbing to the joints and extremities. Light damp stain to the front board. A few light marks to boards.
