Tipped in is a letter from the French Nobel Prize winning poet Sully Prudhomme, the author of the sonnet on Van Dyck to the start of the work. His letter is tipped in at the same page as his sonnet. In addition there is a signed letter from the author tipped in to the dedication to Sully Prudhomme on page V. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Collated, complete with twenty eight plates and numerous in-text illustrations. Written by Jules Guiffrey, a French art historian and member of the Academie des Beaux-Arts. Anthony van Dyck was a leading court painter in England. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the head and tail of spine. Signed letter tipped in to the sonnet page and the dedication leaf. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd spot.
