Title: Terrapeutica. Claudii Geleni Pergameni Methodus Medendi, Id Est, de Morbis Curandis, Libri Quatuordecim
Description: Venice, Aloysius de Tortis, 1519. Vellum. A very scarce, translation of Galen's 'Methodus Medeni&apos. In a contemporary vellum binding. This is one of many translations of Galen's works by Thomas Linacre. Linacre translated many medical works, to make them accessible to all Latin readers. He translated six of Galen's works total, including 'De Sanitae Tuenda', 'De Temperamentis', 'De Naturalibus', 'De Symptomatum' and 'De Pulsuum&apos. Linacre was a humanist physician, and noted scholar. The Linacre College, Oxford was named after him. This translation was first published in 1519, and bibliographically this copy sits as the seventh or eighth edition. (Wellcome 2639. Norman 852). Tightly bound. Methodus Medendi is a notable medical work by the physician, surgeon and philosopher Galen. He was one of the most prolific intellectuals of western antiquity. His medical works were extremely influential throughout the medieval period. A bright example of this very scarce work. In a full vellum binding. Externally, smart, with a few handling marks to boards. Internally, tightly bound. Chips to the fore edge of the title page. Otherwise, pages are very bright with just the odd spot.
