This work is a dictionary of the Society of Artists and the Free Society of Artists. Compiled by Algernon Graves, the British art historian and dealer. Graves specialised in the documentation of the exhibition and sale of works of art. It is Graves' works like this, which formed the foundation of the modern discipline of provenance research. A bright copy of this work. In a quarter morocco binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the head and tail of spine. Light patches of rubbing to the extremities. Small loss to the head of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright. Light scattered spots to the first and last few pages.
