A narrative verse poem, being the legendary tale of Armine and Elvira. This was an exceptionally popular poem, going through many editions in the few years after it was published, and receiving praise from the likes of Sir Walter Scott. This was, at the time, one of John Murray's best selling publications. Written by Edmund Cartwright, an English inventor, who is best known for his invention of the power loom. He wrote this poem whilst he was a clergyman, and also published the poem 'The Prince of Peace' in 1779. Disbound. Externally, the outer leaves are age-toned with a few spots. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spotting. Loss of paper near the gutter of the title page, not affecting text. Light tidemark to the gutter of pages.
