A touching poem written by William Hayley on the death of his friend, John Thornton. Hayley and Thornton met at Trinity Hall, Cambridge in roughly 1762, and remained friends until Thornton's death on the 5th January 1780. Besides that, little is known of Thornton, as he did not appear to be in the public eye. Hayley was an English author, and is best known for his biography of his good friend William Cowper. Disbound. Externally, the outer leaves are lightly age-toned with a few light marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with the odd spot. Small puncture marks to the gutter of the half-title and title page. Small ink mark to the head of the title page. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
