The play is set in the castle of Aguas Frescas, which is three leagues from Seville. The play begins in the bedroom to be shared in the castle by Figaro and Suzanne after their wedding. In this play, Beaumarchais denounces aristocratic privilege which, as this work was first published in 1778, is often seen as foreshadowing of the forthcoming French Revolution. The other books in the 'Figaro' trilogy are 'Le Barbier de Seville' and 'La Mere Coupable&apos. Pierre Beaumarchais was a French polymath, being a revolutionary, publisher, spoy, horticulturist, watchmaker, as well as many other pursuits. He was a supporter of American independence.
