Title: Journal Des Goncourt Memoires de la Vie Litteraire
Description: Paris, Biliotheque-Charpentier, 1891-4. Leather. The Goncourt's brothers' extensive journal on the vivid and intimate literary and artistic life in Paris. In the original French. A collection of the letters of the Goncourt brothers, and extracts from their journal. The Goncourt Journal was a diary written by Edmond and Jules de Goncourt, from 1850 to Jules' death in 1870. The journal is a candid account of the literary and artistic scene in Paris in the mid nineteenth century. Upon publication this work was met with critical acclaim, with critics describing it as an inimitable view into French literary society. The Goncourt brothers were inseparable in life, both being naturalism writers, and collaborative writers throughout their lives. Their histories include 'La Femme au XVIIIe Siecle' and 'La du Barry&apos. They also wrote novels as a joined effort, including 'Germinie Lacerteux, which was based on the double life of their maid, Rose Malingre. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. A little rubbing and discolouration to the spines. Minor rubbing to the boards. Internally, firmly bound.
