Volume VII is lacking the half-title. Written by James Anthony Froude, a historian, novelist, and the editor of the 'Fraser's Magazine&apos. This was his best known work, and led to him becoming the best known historian of his time. Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the University of Leeds Library. Bookplate to the front pastedowns, 'F. W. Egerton, Cheriton', though misplaced to the rear pastedowns of some volumes. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper of Volume I, 'Mary Egerton from Cowper Xmas 90&apos. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Light spotting to the boards. Minor rubbing to the boards and spines. Front hinges of Volumes II, VII, X, and XII starting but firm. Bookplates to the front pastedowns, misplaced to the rear pastedowns of some volumes. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper of Volume I. Internally, firmly bound.
