Collated, complete.'The Case of Impropriations' is an interesting analysis of the Church of England, looking at the finance of the church, secularisation, as well as to the ecclesiastical law. The work examined the history of lay impropriations. At the time of this work, the Church of England was still a fairly new institution. However it had had a monopoly over religion in England since the reign of Henry VIII, with some religious turmoil during the reign of James II, and during the Interregnum. Written in 1704, this work was composed just after a serious period of turmoil in England, with the Glorious Revolution of the 1680s. The author was an Anglican priest, who had been unimpressed by Charles I's lax behaviour towards Catholics. He also disliked the ecclesiastical policy of James II, and preached many discourses against popery. Written by White Kennett. Kennett is known for his significant contributions to British historical scholarship, writing the first substantial parish history. He was an antiquarian and vicar of Ambrosden in Oxfordshire from 1685 until 1708, and rose to become the bishop of Peterborough in 1718. He strongly opposed the Sacheverell movement, and supported the side of Bishop Hoadly during the Bangorian controversy.
