This work discusses the Poor Law Commission, and it's creation in the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834, which led to the establishment of workhouses. This was known as the New Poor Law, replacing the Old Poor law of 1601. The Poor Laws was a tax on property imposed in each parish, used to try and relieve poverty. This work analyses how the Poor Laws protected that poor, and how the law actually worked in providing relief to the poor. With the bookplate of Riccardo Bachi to the front pastedown. Bachi was an Italian economist and statistician, and was the author of many economic works. The last one-hundred and twenty-eight pages are supplements and an index. Rebacked with the original cloth boards lain on. Externally, smart. Light marks to the boards and spine, heavier to the boards. Minor bumping to the extremities.
