This is a very early French translation of the work, which is one of the earliest pieces of erotica in Latin. Two parts in one, as called for. 'Satiriques D'Aloisia' is considered to be the first pornographic work written in Latin. It forms a collection of dialogues with Tullia, an Italian woman in her twenties, who is charged with teaching her young cousin Ottavia about sex and sexuality by Ottavia's mother. To do so she seduces Ottavia and teaches her in a practical nature. In this writing Chorier defends tribadism, and explores female sexuality. This work has been published under many different titles, in several languages. The English title is the 'Dialogues of Luisa Siegea' or 'The School of Women, or the Seven Flirtatious Encounters of Aloisia&apos. Upon its initial publication, the work was circulated through the libertine community, under various imprints. Several early copies of this work have false imprints, claiming that they were published in England or other European locations when it was more likely to be published in Paris, (ESTC). One of the original titles of this work was 'Aloisiae Sigaeae, Toletanae, Satyra sotadica de arcanis Amoris et Veneris&apos. It was purported to have been written in Spanish by Luisa Sigea de Velasco. De Velasco was a poet and an important intellectual figure during Spanish humanism in the sixteenth century. This work was believed to be her 'Sotadic Satire' on the secrets of love and sex due to the fact that the novel is written from a female perspective. It was believed to then have been translated into the Latin form from the Spanish manuscript by Dutch humanist, Johannes Meursius. This was a fabrication, and the work was actually written by Nicolas Chorier. De Velasco and Meursius had no involvement in the creative process. Nicholas Chorier was a French lawyer, writer and historian. He penned many works on Dauphine, which remain to be important historical sources. However, he is best remembered as the true author of this title. In French, translated from the original Latin. The front pastedown comprises of a stunning hand-drawn and coloured floral motif. This same design is to the rear pastedown, although is lacking a large portion. A very scarce and important literary work in the genre of erotica. In a contemporary half calf binding. Externally, worn, with loss to the joints and spine due to worming, not affecting the textblock. Loss to the rear board. Small tide-marks to the endpapers at edges. Loss to the paper pastedowns. Contemporary hand to the recto of front endpaper 'A' and to the recto of rear endpaper forming a contents page. Internally, firmly bound.
