'The New Foundling Hospital for Wit' is a collection of satirical works and poems, titled as a satirical nod to London's Foundling Hospital, which opened in 1741. A sequel to 'The Foundling Hospital for Wit', which was published in six volumes published by 1749. Compiled by John Almon. Almon was a journalist, known for his writings on political subjects. During the American Revolution, he published monthly papers looking at the events taking place in America. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpapers, 'Emily Anne&apos. Institutional stamp to the front pastedown, 'Newbattle Abbey College', of Volume III, IV, and V. In a full calf binding. Externally, generally smart. Some rubbing and light surface cracks to the spines. A little loss to the head and tail of the spines. Small crack to the head of the front joint of Volumes III, IV, V, and VI. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpapers, 'Emily Anne&apos. Institutional stamp to the front pastedown, 'Newbattle Abbey College', of Volume III, IV, and V.
