These volumes contain a collection of articles that were originally published in the 'Gentleman's Magazine' between 1731 and 1868, all of the articles in these volumes pertaining to English topography. Containing; Part V, 'Hampshire - Huntingdonshire&apos. This volume has two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. Part VIII, 'Norfolk - Northamptonshire - Northumberland&apos. Part XIII, 'Warwickshire - Westmoreland - Wiltshire&apos. 'The Gentleman's Magazine' was a periodical founded in London in 1731, and was the first to use the term magazine for periodical. It was intended for the educated public. Some of its regular contributors include Samuel Johnson, Jonathan Swift, William Falconer, Richard Weston, William Markham, and Mary Barber. Edited by George Laurence Gomme. Gomme was a folklorist who held found the Folklore Society, as well as having a strong interest in history. He also published 'Primitive Folk Moos', 'Folklore Relics of Early Village Life', 'Folklore as a Historical Science', and more. Also edited by F. A. Milne. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. A little marking and discolouration to the boards and spine, a little heavier to Part V. The odd spot to the fore edges. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown.
