Description: London, John Bennett, 1834. Cloth. The second edition of John Billington's extensive look at architecture, profusely illustrated throughout, including with folding plates. An uncommon work. The second edition of this work. This work is a very interesting and extensive study of architecture, with a helpful glossary of architectural terms. It is a comprehensive guide to classical architecture. The author especially focuses on the work of Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola. Vignola was an Italian architect, prominent in the sixteenth century in the Mannerism style. He designed the Villa Farnese and the Church of the Gesu. Illustrated with fourteen folding plates, and sixty-nine plates. Written by John Billington, an architect. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown, 'J. A. Aspinwall&apos. In a cloth binding. Externally, generally smaart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Some discoloration and loss to the spine label. A little fading to the spine. A small chip to the spine. Front hinge is strained after the textblock but remains firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with scattered spots. Tape repairs to the reverse of the folding plate titled 'To Obtain a Proportional Gradation of the Orders&apos.
