Jonathon Swift was an author and cleric, who was appointed Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin. He was known for writing under several pseudonyms, but by far his most recognisable pen-name would be Lemuel Gulliver. 'Gulliver's Travels' as they would come to be known, saw Swift's fictional explorer some across unusual countries and people. Swift was also noted as having a fractious relationship with Queen Anne. Having taken dislike his work 'A Tale of a Tub', the monarch actively prevented Swift from gaining his desired position within the clergy. Instead he secured a smaller appointment at the Deanery of St Patrick's much to the Queens dismay. Once the Tory lost power, Swift was placed in a vulnerable position, having made an enemy of the monarch, and decided to leave England for Ireland. This particular biography of Swift's life is written by W. H. Dilworth. Rebacked, with the original boards preserved. Externally generally smart. Heavy rubbing to the extremities, with patches of rubbing to both the front and rear board. Handling marks to both the front and rear pastedowns and endpapers, with the front endpaper partially detached to the tail. Internally firmly bound. Pages are lightly cockled and age toned throughout. The original spine label is torn in two parts and is loosely inserted into the volume. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: None. Very Good Indeed .
