Much of Henry George Davis's short life was devoted to the compilation of this work, that was published posthumously under his brother Charles's editorship. A first edition copy. Illustrated with black and white in-text illustrations and six plates. Lacking plate of 'Lanesborough House&apos. In the publisher's original cloth binding with blind stamped detail to boards. Externally bumped to extremities and head and tail of spine. Slight loss, splitting and lifting to cloth to head of spine. Fading to spine. Ink marks to front board. Front hinge failed, with cover largely detached to text block. Rear hinge split and strained, more severe to rear. Tidemark to gutter of front endpapers. Internally generally firmly bound, strained in places. First few pages partially detached to gutter, may detach with further handling. Pages age toned to extremities but bright and clean, with the odd spot to the occasional page. Small tidemark to head and tail of gutters. Pages occasionally uncut to rear of text. Plate of 'The Westbourne' has been bound facing page 21. Lacking plate of 'Lanesborough House&apos. Good . Ill.: Unnamed. Good .
