This work is a reworking of Aesop's fables, worked into rhymes for babies and young children. Aesop's fables are a collection of ethical fables, guiding in religious, social, and political themes. Illustrated throughout with numerous pages of coloured illustrations. Edited and illustrated by Walter Crane. Crane was an illustrator, and was the most influential children's book creators of his time. Engraved and printed in colour by Edmund Evans. Evans was a wood-engraver and full-colour printing, and worked to produce many classic children's books. Evans and Crane begun working together in 1863, and the begun collaborating in 1851 to produce two of three toy books for children each year for over ten years. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with pictorial paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to the spine. Minor marks to the boards. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound, though a little strained in places. Pages are bright and clean. Stamp to the preface, 'East Sussex County Library H.Q.&apos. Very Good .
