Rebound in a full cloth binding, with gilt detailing to the spine. With no title page. Title taken from the first page, 'Memorial of the Count de Guines, the French Ambassador to the Court of London; against Messieurs Tort and Roger, formerly his Secretaries, and against Mr. Delpech.' Adrien-Louis de Bonnières, duc de Guînes was a army general and also a diplomat, serving as the French Ambassador. He is also remembered as being highly favoured by Marie-Antoinette. In this memorial Guines accuses he former secretaries of 'several prevarications in the exercise of the function of his office', and defends himself against accusation these men have made towards him. In this piece of writing Guines spiritedly attempts to defend his character from accusations of stock jobbing and several other offences. A very scarce piece of writing from teh 18th century, from this notable and influential French diplomat. Rebound in a full cloth binding. Externally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, with light rubbing to the extremities. Light spotting to the front and rear pastedown and endpapers. Internally firmly bound.
