Author: Junius Title: Junius Stat Nominis Umbra
Description: London, Gale, Curtis and Fenner et al, 1813. Leather. A profusely illustrated edition of the well known critical letters regarding King George III's government. In a lovely crushed morocco binding. This work was penned by an anonymous polemicist and was published in two volumes in 1772. This is a collection of private and open letters as well as other letters in-reply from people to whom Junius had written between 1769 and 1772. The addresees of the letters include the Duke of Grafton, Edward Weston, Duke of Bedford, Zeno and more. Junius is a pseudonym for the unknown author of these letters. With ten plates. Collated, lacking 'Sir William Draper' and 'Duke of Grafton' plates. Junius' identity is a topic of great debate and may remain unsolved unless further evidence is found. Many scholars believe the identification may be that of Sir Philip Francis. Portraits to this work are by Mr Edward Bocquet, an historical engraver, after original paintings. In a full morocco binding. Externally, very smart. Patches of rubbing to the joints, boards and extremities. Light rubbing to the head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with scattered spots to pages, heavier to 352-358. Good . Ill.: Mr Edward Bocquet. Good .
