Description: London, Lackington, Allen and Co, 1806. Leather. A autobiographical work of Richard Cumberland with an exploration of his life and career as a dramatist. A scarce work. With the bookplate of Hope Bart. of Craig Hall to the front pastedown. There were two Baronet's of Craighall contemporary to the time of publication, those being Sir Archibald Hope and Sir Thomas Hope. It is not clear whose bookplate this is. Richard Cumberland was 18th century dramatist. This edition features numerous anecdotes and characters of numerous distinguished persons of his time, with whom he had a connection. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and three additional plates throughout the volume. Rebacked, in a full calf binding. Externally generally smart, with rubbing to the boards and extremities. Light spot and age toning to the front and rear pastedown and endpapers. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Offsetting to the title page. Light cockling to the pages, heavier to the endpapers.
