Containing an account of the Chancellor's life from his birth to the restoration in 1660 and a continuation of the same and of his history of the grand rebellion from restoration to his banishment in 1667. Edward Hyde was an English statesman. He was Lord Chancellor to King Charles II and was responsible for building the royalist cause. He wrote several influential works of history especially the contemporary history of the Civil War. Hyde's loyalties to the King are clear through his memoir. Hyde was also the maternal grandfather of Queen Mary II and Queen Anne. With the contemporary inscription of 'W Dodson' to the recto of front endpaper to both volumes. In the original publisher's boards. Externally, sound with bumping to the extremities and to the spine. Marks to the boards. Loss to the spines, which have darkened. Internally, firmly bound.
