Printed from his original manuscripts given to the University of Oxford. Complete in two volumes. The first edition of this work was issued the year before in 1759. This copy is ESTC No T130625. In the original publisher's boards. Containing an account of the Chancellor's life from his birth to the restoration in 1660 and a continuation of the same and of his history of the grand rebellion from restoration to his banishment in 1667. Edward Hyde was an English statesman. He was Lord Chancellor to King Charles II and was responsible for building the royalist cause. He wrote several influential works of history especially the contemporary history of the Civil War. Hyde's loyalties to the King are clear through his memoir. Hyde was also the maternal grandfather of Queen Mary II and Queen Anne. With the contemporary inscription of 'W Dodson' to the recto of front endpaper to both volumes. In the original publisher's boards. Externally, sound with bumping to the extremities and to the spine. Marks to the boards. Loss to the spines, which have darkened. Internally, firmly bound.
