Indeed his descriptions of nature and his analysis of the feelings of the self significantly influenced Romantic writers in France, with the notable author Victor Hugo famously stating "I want to be Chateaubriand or nothing". Copiously illustrated throughout by the notable French painter and lithographer Antoine Calbet. A scare edition of this work from the Guillaume 'Nouvelles Collection' 'Lotus Bleu' series. In a full crushed morocco binding. Externally, faded to spine. Damstaining and marking, only to rear board. Slight offsetting to extremities of endpapers. Rear hinge weak and showing cords, may detach with further handling. Rear endpapers partially detached to gutter, with tidemark and ink marking. Internally, generally firmly bound, strained in places. Pages bright and clean, with the odd faint spot. Pages slightly age toned to edges. Very faint tidemark to gutter of the first few pages.
