By Sir John Harington, the translator of Ariosto, and others who lived in those times. With an original plate of the Princess Elizabeth, engraved 1554. The contents pages are bound after the first leaf of the preface (between pages 4 and 5) as is common with this work. Harington/Harrington was regarded as Queen Elizabeth's godson. He was one of 102 godchildren. He is also known for inventing the flushing toilet. In paper wraps. Externally, generally smart. Small chip to the top wrap at the extremity. Front joint has been neatly repaired with tape. Front hinge is strained but firm. Small split to the paper at the rear joint. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Scattered spots to pages, heavier to the first and last few pages. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
