This particular work was written by Charles James Fox. Unfinished at the time of his death in 1806, the work was first published posthumously two years later. Fox was a notable member of the Whig party, who was vocal in his disregard to the monarch George III. With a illustrated frontispiece of the author, being a drawing a taken from a bust by the sculpture by Joseph Nollekens. The work explores the early years of Jame II's reign, being of particular not at the last Roman Catholic Monarch of Great Britain. His reign was fraught with controversy in regards to his religious stance, which resulted in friction between parliament and the monarchy, and his eventual deposition. The work features a introductory chapter to which is added a appendix. In a full straight-grained morocco binding. Externally generally smart. Light rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, to the joint and extremities. Indentations to the leather of the rear board. Light offsetting and spotting to the front and rear endpapers. Rear pastedown has a small amount of loss to the extremities, and is beginning to lift from the rear board. Evidence of worming to the rear endpaper and rear blank, towards the fore edge. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally clean, with only some minors spotting the frontispiece, and light offsetting to the title page, caused by the frontispiece. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: Howard.
