A travel work documenting travels in France, at a time when the author believed France to be a shadow of its former self. Two chapters from this book, "A City at Play" and "The First Sunday at Lent", were originally published in periodicals before being published in this volume. Written by Dinah Craik. Craik is best known for her novel 'John Halifax, Gentleman&apos. She also received great success from her novels 'Cola Monti' and 'The Ogilvies&apos. With a frontispiece by W. H. Bartlett. Prior owner's ink inscription to the half-title page, 'Hilda Willshaw, 9 Duncan St. Broughton, Nov 3rd 1924&apos. In the original cloth binding with gilt decoration to the front board and to the spine. Externally, smart. Light marking to the boards, with minor rubbing to the joints. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with only the odd spot, mostly to the frontispiece. Very Good . Ill.: W. H. Bartlett. Very Good .
