A very scare first edition copy of this travel work on Europe, signed by the author and copiously illustrated throughout. No collation available, but appears to be complete. Featuring the author's signature and an ink dedication to the title page: 'Gev. Adams Esq with compliments and best wishes from C. E. Davies' C. E. Davies, or Charles Ellis Davies was a notable newspaper proprietor and politician, and son of the founder of 'The Mercury', a daily Hobart newspaper in which this work was originally published in a series of articles. This work covers the author's travels through Europe with his family, serving as an entertaining and instructive work for 'those who have not had an opportunity of visiting the countries and places of interest herein particularised&apos. In a cloth binding with gilt stamped title and detailing to the front board and spine, and blind stamped border to the boards. Externally very smart. Slightly bumped and rubbed to extremities and head and tail of spine. Rubbing to head of rear joint. Handling marks to rear board. Front hinge slightly split, strained but firm. Front hinge also split between endpapers. Internally firmly bound, strained only to first few pages. The odd page spotted to extremities. Spotting to first and last few pages. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Offsetting to final page of text. Author's ink inscription and signature to title page. Very Good . Ill.: Various. Very Good .
