More specifically, Foster is responding to Gally's work 'A Dissertation against pronouncing the Greek Language according to accents&apos. Gally later issued a response to Foster's rebuttal titled 'A Second Dissertation against pronouncing the Greek Language according to accents, in answer to Mr [John] Foster's Essay&apos. This second edition of Foster's work issued the same year as Gally's response, includes a further response to Gally's 'Second Dissertation&apos. John Foster was an esteemed figure in society, being the Canon of Windsor from 1772 to 1773 and Headmaster of Eton College from 1765 to his death in 1773.
