By the Honorable Walter Bourchier Devereux, a Captain in the Royal Navy. A biographical work exploring the lives of the Earls of Essex under three monarchs, dating from 1540 to 1646. Illustrated with 4 illustrations and with frontispiece to each volume. Binders stamp to the head of the front pastedown of 'J. Leighton, Brewer St.' With a bookplate to the front pastedown of each volume of Sir George Cornewall Lewis, Baronet. Lewis was a British statesman and man of letter. In a half calf binding, with cloth covered boards. Externally, a trifle rubbed. Rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, raised bands and joints. Lacking spine label to volume I. Small amount of loss to the spine label on volume II. Rubbing to the extremities has resulted in a small amount of loss to the leather. Very light spots to front and rear boards. Binders stamp to the front pastedown of each volume to the head, and with a bookplate to the front pastedown also to each volume. Ink inscription to the head of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are clean with the odd spot, and occasional instances of offsetting caused by illustrations. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
