With an inscription by the author's daughter, Isobel, to the title page reading: "Robert James Grant Ballantyne Youngest Son of R.M.Ballantyne (author) Sailor, with lost sight of one eye. Then he became the member of Indian Legislative Council + Financial Advisor to Viceroy of India" This scarce poetical work was written by R. J. G. Ballantyne, a key non-elected member of the Central Legislative Assembly in India during the early twentieth century and is based around his travels in South Africa. Ballantyne's father is the well-known author of Scottish juvenile fiction, R. M. Ballantyne. Ballantyne was a prolific author, writing more than one hundred works of juvenile fiction. This work is also printed by the family printing house based in Edinburgh, Ballantyne, Hanson & Co. In a red cloth binding with gilt detail to the front board. Externally smart with slight bumping to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. Slight fading to the extremities. Small area of damp staining to the lower extremity of the front and rear board. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd spot and marginal age toning. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
