Description: London, McCorquodale and Co. Limited, 1887. First edition. Cloth. An uncommon first limited edition copy of George Bertram Bulmer's study of church architecture in Yorkshire. George Bertram Bulmer was a Victorian architect who practised in Leeds in partnership with Henry Perkin as 'Perkin & Bulmer' from 1877. He was also President of the 'Leeds and Yorkshire Architectural Society' from 1891 to 1892 2 and 1904 to 1905. This copy is a limited 'Jubilee Edition' of three hundred copies, published in honour of the fiftieth year (1887) of 'the reign of Queen Victoria&apos. Collated, complete with twenty plates and a map of Yorkshire, depicting a railway approach to the locations and objects explored and described by Butram within the text. This copy also features a table of the reigning sovereigns in each century in Britain, from William the Conqueror to Queen VIctoria, and an accompanying table noting the primary architectural styles of each century from William the Conqueror to Queen VIctoria. This copy features a tipped in contemporary bookplate to the front pastedown, stating: 'Sir Henry Ponsonby has received the Queen's commands to thank Mr. Bulmer for the handsome volume which forwarded on the 21st instant for her Majesty's acceptance. Privy Purse Office Buckingham Palace, S. W. 27th June 1887&apos. In a cloth binding with gilt title to front board. Externally, generally smart. Bumped and rubbed to extremities and head and tail of spine. Rubbing to cloth resulting in small sections of loss to extremities. Handling marks to boards. Small section of sunning to front board. Joints rubbed and split, starting but firm. Small section of cloth partially detached to head of rear joint. Slight dampstaining to gutter of rear joint. Hinges tender, partially split and showing chords. Tidemark to gutter of free-endpapers. Bookplate tipped to front pastedown. Internally, binding loosening, failed in places, with pages detached but all present. Pages very bright and clean throughout, age toned to extremities. Ink marking to rear endpapers. Good Only .
