Dated using Copac. George Herbert was a Welsh poet and priest for the Church of England. Born to a wealthy family Herbert received a good education and later attended trinity College, Cambridge. Writing in English, Latin and Greek, all of Herbert's surviving poems are religious in content. Bishop Joseph Hall was a English satirist and moralist. He was at times controversial, speaking against Protestant separatists, and was known as political outspoken. In his lifetime he produced many devotional works, giving up satire when he was ordained a minister for the Church of England. In full morroco binding, with gilt detailing. Externally, smart with rubbing to the joint and to the head and tail of the spine. There is also rubbing along the edge and to the extremities. Small mark to the front board. Spotting to the front and rear end pages, with a small tear to the front endpaper, no more than 0.5 cm. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are generally bright, with the odd spot throughout, mainly towards the front. Good . Ill.: Various. Good .
