Author: TARBELL, IDA M. Title: In the Footsteps of the Lincolns
Description: Harpers, 1924.. Hardcover . Hardback, fairly thick tall octavo, appx 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches, gilt spine titling on navy blue ribbed cloth, xiv + 418 pages, VG+/no dj (stiff clear acetate dj provided to preserve condition). Very much a bright, clean copy w/ only scant signs of any wear. Seems that there are a very few instances of pages that remain opened (need to be carefully sliced open at the fore-edge). Inside back cover has a bookseller s label top edge at the gutter: Bullock s Book Shop, and with a magnifier you can read Los Angeles. Filling most of a half-title page that follows the Preface is a b&w newspaper image of Lincoln (neatly affixed) with a couple of paragraphs that had accompanied the newspaper image (the story of how the glass negative for the image was discovered at an auction in Buffalo, NY) affixed to the blank page facing the afore-mentioned Lincoln image. The clippings have caused only a very minor amount of associated tanning to the adjacent pages of the book (and similarly with a smallish Star Spangled Banner newspaper clipping affixed facing the actual half-title page). The portrait was taken in November of 1863 by Alexander Gardner in Washington, D.C. and is sometimes referred to as the Gettysburg Portrait (wiki: Lincoln photographic portrait). Scattered b&w plates on glossy stock + a few line drawings and reproductions. Indexed. Due to size & weight, Priority or International order will require additional postage. Very Good.
