Title: LEGISLATIVE MANUAL OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN, FOR THE YEAR 1881
Description: Lansing, W.S. George & Company - State Printers and Binders, 1881. 1881. Hardcover . Hardback, small octavo, appx 5 3/4 x 8 1/8 inches, gilt on full red leather, 507 pages + numerous maps at the rear, Good only. Interior not all that bad with the exception of splitting at the front hinge + the frontis & title page are loose as a single 4-page unit. Exterior: corners rubbed through, heel of spine rubbed with a small chip out + head of spine moderately rubbed and chipped. PROVENANCE. Publisher-stamped name in gilt to front cover: William L. Greenly. Greenly is in the Index of Names and given three citations there, but he seems to have noted in ink one other. There are four markers in the margin at these four locations (also in ink and presumably noted by Greenly himself). He had been elected to the state Senate from Adrian for the years 1839 to 1843, and was President Pro Tem. of that body, January to January, 1842-1843. He is also noted as having been elected Lieutenant Governor in 1846 and as having become acting Governor in 1847 for nearly a year. The are 10 maps, most are 2-color and all seem to be nice, with only an occasional small, light stain (Railroads, Legislative Districts, Judicial Districts, etc.). No foxing present. Edges spatter-stained dark gray-green, with top edges dusty. Engraved plates of the Michigan State Capitol (frontis) and the Old State Capitol are both in nice condition. Slip bound in amending three Senate Rules. Contents include US Constituion and Michigan Constitution. Good.
