Author: FRAENKEL, HEINRICH (1897-1986). Title: Help us Germans to beat the nazis! (Victory Books no. 14).
Description: London, Victor Gollancz, 1941. Or.cloth., back discolored. 118 pp. Some tiny workholes throughout, otherwise in good condition. * Heinrich Fraenkel wrote this book while interned in Hutchinson Camp on the Isle of Man. About 1100 Germans, mostly Jews and academics, were held captive during the Second World War. Fraenkel was able to smuggle the manuscript of his book to London publisher Victor Gollancz. The last chapter of the book is on Camp Hutchinson, where a relative mild regime existed. Fraenkel himself considered his internment justified in order to prevent German spies coming into the country. Fraenkel was released from the camp 6 months after his arrest. After the war he was the Berlin correspondent for the New Statesman, publishing articles on the Nuremberg trials. In 1949 he returned to England and became a British citizen in 1950.
