Author: STERNE (Laurence): Title: Voyage Sentimental en France. Par M. Sterne, sou le Nom d''Yorick.
Description: A Dijon, de l'Imrimerie de L. N. Frantin, 1797, 2 volume in 1. 8vo, 193 x 120 mms., pp. [ii], 251 [252 blank]; [ii], 243 [244 blank, 245 -246 contents, 257 - 258 blank], including half-titles, uncut and largely unopened, a "waste paper" binding, with covers deriving from displaced leaves of the printer. The sort of binding that increases the heartbeat of those of us interested in the history of the book. Louis-Nicolas Frantin was probably one of France's best printers, and certainly the best in Dijon. This appears to be one of only 24 copies printed on Holland paper, but there are several in libraries and on offer in the antiquarian book marketplace that make one doubt that limitation number or the accuracy of various descriptions, including mine and that of a previous bookseller. Sterne's Sentimental Journey was first published in 1768 and translated into French in 1769. The translation here is by Joseph-Pierre Frenais.
