This work was called forth by the first poem by the new Poet Laureate Thomas Warton (1728 - 1790), an ode on the King's birthday. Tickell (1751 - 1793) and Joseph (1755 - 1803) were the prime movers and shakers of this satire on Warton and the Pitt government. It was frequently reprinted.
