A Dublin edition was published in the same year. The Universal Magazine for June, 1789, published extracts, with this endorsement: "The Narrative throughout displays a great Knowledge of the Human Heart and of the World, and exhibits in the most terrific Light the Miseries inseparable from a Vicious and Depraved Disposition; while, on the other Hand, the Disgust which such a Character necessarily excites, is relieved by the Contemplation of the Happiness, finally the Result of Virtuous Principle, exhibited by a very amiable Character in the most difficult and trying Scenes."
