Title: A Discourse on Education and On the Plans pursued in Charity-Schools.
Description: [London]: Printed for T. Cadell, and T. Evans, London; and J. and C. Berry, Norwich, 1785, FIRST EDITION. 4to, 275 x 213 mms., pp. [iv], 78 [79 Errata. 80 blank], contemporary roan, rebacked, corners worn, an ex-library copy with stamps from King's College Library, London, and the Coleridge Library, but with compensating provenance: the inscription "Mary Senior/ from Mr. Robertson," on the verso of the front free end-paper as well as the ownership stamp of "J. W. Adamson"; and the autograph "Edward Senior" on the title-page. This was the second version of Parr's discourse on education, first published in 1782. His biographer, William Field, asserts that the work is "a discourse of no common excellence; and, if it cannot be said that the author has advanced much that is absolutely new, yet it must be acknowledged that he has pursued his subject into all its various ramifications, and entered into all its practical details, with great acuteness and great accuracy. Its undue length, as a pulpit-oration, cannot be urged as an objection to the perusal of it by the reader at his own leisure."
